Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you get your moss?

From temperate zone rainforests along Oregon’s coast. We obtain permits from the Or. Dept of Forestry to pick in designated areas to preserve sustained yield practice. We bring the moss to one of our fields to dry to about 15% water content so that we can compress the moss into bale form for shipment without it growing mold.

Is your moss Sphagnum Moss?

Sphagnum is one of about 35 varieties of moss that grow in our forests. We select varieties that closely resemble Sphagnum. This is why we call our moss Oregon Green Moss.

Does your moss work as ground cover in yards?

No. Those are varieties that you can find in nurseries. Ours is decorative moss.

How is your moss used?

Please download our flyer from the link on our Home page.

What is your minimum?

We ship 1 bale of moss by Fedex (with help of a shipping box). For larger orders we pack 25 bales per pallet or up to 30 bales per pallet. For trailer loads we usually floor stack about 800 bales – depending on trailer length.

From where do you ship?

We deliver to Fedex in Salem, OR. We ship LTL from docks located in Salem. We ship full trailers from our fields that are on the east and west side of Salem.

How long does your moss last and how should we handle it?

Our moss is anaerobic, meaning it does not need much oxygen to last. This is an ancient plant and among the first to transport itself from ocean to land. It lasts in bale form for 6 months at least. When you receive a pallet it will be wrapped in shrink-wrap. I suggest you remove the wrap and temp-store it in a well ventilated relatively cool space away from direct sunlight. When you break open a bale to use you may mist the moss or dunk clumps in a bucket of water and place on surface to dry. Moisture will be re-absorbed in the tendrils.

Do you accept credit cards for payment?

At this time we do not. We ask for payment before shipment by sending us a check in the mail or by emailing the photo of your check as an attachment. Make certain all 4 corners show. We can make a mobile deposit.
